The Marhoc Automatic Hand Sanitizer is new technology developed by Marhoc especially for the medical profession, food service workers, and postal employees.

Malcolm Thomas, P.E., our C.E.O., and resident genius, picked up the newspaper one morning and was alarmed to read that approximately 100,000 people perish in the United States alone each year due to germs transferred to them on the hands of health care workers.

Most of us are shocked by such statistics. We shake our heads in dismay and go on about our daily lives, hoping that we will not be one of those. Mr. Thomas decided to do something to eliminate the tragedy.

Mr. Thomas had developed a new method of producing ozone and invented an ozone generator that is marketed to the restoration industry nationwide for the purpose of smoke and odor removal.

He recently patented a fully automated and totally integrated air purification system using ozone. This system is the only one available that is actually effective against microorganisms and fungi without being harmful to human health. This system kills microorganisms in the ductwork as well as in the ambient air. This system purifies the air in as many rooms as are served by one air handler. A monitoring device is electrically tied into the unit to shut the system down in the event that ozone concentrations reach a level set by regulatory agencies.

Ozone (O3) is the triatomic form of oxygen (O2). The ozone molecule is comprised of three atoms bound at an angle of 116 degrees 49 minutes. This arrangement is inherently unstable. This instability is the reason for ozone's powerful oxidizing and disinfecting properties.

When an ozone molecule comes in contact with a bacteria, smoke particle or other microscopic contaminant, the third oxygen atom breaks away from the ozone molecule and joins with (oxidizing in the process) the contaminant leaving behind an oxygen molecule.

Bacteria coming in contact with ozone are ruptured in a process known as cell lysing. There is no chance of reorganization of cellular material. The kill is swift and sure in a matter of seconds.

The method of kill for viruses is somewhat different. The simplest terms to describe it is that ozone prevents replication.

Ozone acts 3000 times faster than chlorine as a bactericide in water and 6000 times faster in air.

Since Leeuwenhoek first drew pictures of bacteria that were published in the Philosophical Transactions Of the Royal Society in 1683, people have sought ways to reduce and hopefully eliminate disease causing microorganisms. Bactericides have been developed over the years beginning with the discovery of penicillin. Each time, however, resistant strains of bacteria evolve, necessitating the development of even stronger anti-bacterials. Today, there is a strain of deadly Staphylococcus Aureus that has become resistant to all bactericides that have ever been developed.

The Marhoc Automatic Hand Sanitizer is the first truly new idea for cleaning hands since man invented soap.

The "AHS" is a device that generates ozone when the hands and forearms are inserted into the openings. A motion detector starts the generation, and after a preset time (a matter of seconds) the generation of ozone ceases and pumps exhaust the ozone in the enclosure through an ozone destruct unit after use by each person.

The "AHS" kills microorganisms on the surface of the skin, without use of water or bactericidal soaps. This means that surgeons will be able to sanitize their hands in a matter of seconds, rather than the usual ten minutes to thoroughly clean their hands. There is no chance of recontamination from tainted tap water, poorly sanitized towels, or touching the surface of the sink after scrubbing up.

The "AHS" is ideal for food service workers and also for postal employees who may feel that they have come in contact with a tainted letter.

A battery operated "AHS" has also been developed for use in disaster situations where electricity may not be available.

The "AHS" is currently being tested. This product should be available for marketing during this year, 2005.
